Brighton manager, Roberto De Zerbi has admitted he’s not happy to have lost some of his best players in the last few months.

Brighton sold Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool last summer, before also losing Moises Caicedo to Chelsea just before the start of the 2023-24 campaign.

The two players were key men in De Zerbi’s side, and were instrumental to their league success last term.

Their departures meant that the Italian manager had to make some adjustments to his squad, and according to him, it wasn’t exactly a pleasant experience.

He told TNT Sports: “I am sorry to lose great players. Caicedo and Mac Allister, I am not happy. But I know very well where I am working, and the policy of the club is like this.

“We are playing with four attackers. Last season Mac Allister often played as a number 10, and so we had more control of the game. Now, we are playing with four attacker – Joao Pedro, Ansu Fati, Evan Ferguson and Welbeck. They are not a number 10. When they get the ball, they want to score.”

Caicedo will this Sunday, play against his former club, as Chelsea host Brighton at Stamford Bridge with hopes of returning to winning ways after last Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle.
