Thiago Silva doesn’t deserve criticism, and should be appreciated and respected instead, despite his howler against Newcastle United on Saturday, according to former Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand.
The Magpies beat Chelsea 4-1 at the St. James Park last weekend, with Silva erring on more than one occasion.
The centre back notably gifted the ball to Joelinton, who made no mistake in smashing it into the Chelsea post to give Newcastle a 3-1 lead. Anthony Gordon netted their fourth, after also beating Silva and another of his teammate.
It was a game to forget for Silva, who is mostly known for commanding his area, and making next to no mistakes since he moved to Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain, and he received a few harsh words from some pundits and fans afterwards.
Ferdinand however, doesn’t think that the 39-year-old deserves to be faulted for his mistakes in the last game, and instead, praised him for managing to throw in great shifts for Chelsea regularly despite his age.
He told the FIVE’s YouTube channel: “Forget the performances, to be getting out there at 39 he deserves a medal. It’s mad. At 36/37 I was on the way to A&E almost after every game I was in so much pain. It was hard. I don’t know he’s doing it. It’s unreal. You’ve got to respect his professionalism. He’s had a bad game this weekend. Who cares!”
