Report: Pochettino forgot to implement punishment for Chelsea stars

Mauricio Pochettino may have forgotten to keep his promise of cancelling his Chelsea players’ day off after their defeat against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Blues were handed a difficult 4-1 loss away at St. James’ Park, and after the game, Poch told the media he was likely going to cancel their day off as a way of punishing them for not turning up against their opponents.

He said: “We were talking in the dressing room after the game, we should go directly to the hotel and sleep, and start to train early in the morning and not have a day off.

“We shouldn’t just blame the players, we need to blame altogether and this is the process of learning and understanding that we want to compete at the level people think we should compete at. We have a very talented squad but to compete is different to playing.”

The Mail however claims that the day off went on as planned, with Chelsea players going about their respective businesses as against turning up for training on Sunday. In fact, Nicolas Jackson has been spotted in a rival video celebrating with his former Villarreal teammates in their dressing room after their 3-1 win against Osasuna.
