Chelsea set to make a decision on Thiago Silva’s future after Newcastle defeat

Chelsea are thinking about what to do with Thiago Silva, according to a new report.

The Brazilian is out of contract next year, and could leave as a free agent at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

At 39 years, Silva isn’t the youngest player out there, and that is certainly a concern for the powers that be at Chelsea.

The centre-back has been mostly solid at the back since he moved to Stamford Bridge from Paris Saint-Germain, although he made a terrible mistake during Saturday’s 4-1 loss against Newcastle United.

However, despite the mistake, The Standard reports that the recruitment team at Chelsea do want to keep Silva beyond next year.

They acknowledge that the defender’s game time may reduce to some extent, but his experience is valuable to the team, and they are likely to hand him a new deal.
