Former Liverpool man, Dean Saunders has warned Mauricio Pochettino to be careful, following the comments he made after Chelsea’s 4-1 loss away at Newcastle on Saturday.
The Blues put on arguably their worst display of the season, as Eddie Howe’s men handed them their fifth loss of the campaign, with the captain, Reece James seeing a red card.
After the game, a disappointed Pochettino slammed his players for not rising up to the challenge.
“That is a mistake, I am not talking about mistakes,” Poch said when talking about Thiago Silva’s mistake, which led to Newcastle’s third goal.
The Argentine then said: “I am talking more about energy, we were not in the right… we were not prepared in the best way to compete today.”
Reece James was also on the receiving end of some criticism from Pochettino, who said he was disappointed with his poor decision-making, which led to him getting a red card during the game.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Sunday, Saunders expressed concern for Pochettino for his comments, and suggested the Chelsea boss risks losing the dressing room.
“What do you do this morning now, Pochettino?” said Saunders. “He’s actually come out and said they’ve not worked hard enough. That is a risky statement to make when you’re not winning.”
Pochettino is the manager of the club, and as such, has every right to check his players when they go out of line. Saunders has a valid concern, but we doubt the players at Chelsea would even consider revolting at this point when they’re clearly the ones to blame for the defeat.
