Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he’s disappointed with Reece James, following his sending off against Newcastle on Saturday.

James was given his marching orders after he was shown a second yellow for pulling down Anthony Gordon during the 4-1 loss against Eddie Howe’s men.

It was a needless challenge since there were defenders in the Chelsea box to deal with any potential danger, but James made a rash decision, which ended up costing the Blues any chance of a possible fightback.

“Disappointed,” the 51-year-old was quoted as saying by football.london when discussing the Chelsea skipper’s dismissal.

“Look this type of thing happens in football. Of course, disappointed of course because we should finish with a player but it happens and we need to accept.”

James’ poor thinking in that moment could have even worse repercussions than the defeat at St. James’ Park, with Chelsea set to play another difficult opponent in Brighton next.
