Mikel Arteta has been told he had no business signing former Chelsea attacker, Kai Havertz because he was never the type of player his side needed.

Arsenal spent a whopping £65m to get Havertz from Chelsea during the summer transfer window. It was a transfer that many didn’t see coming, especially after the Germany international failed to fully impress during his three years at Stamford Bridge.

Despite playing in more than 15 matches for the Gunners since the start of the 2023-24 season, Havertz is yet to register a goal from open play, and former Arsenal and Chelsea defender, William Gallas has now criticised Arteta for signing the 24-year-old.

Gallas told Genting Casino: “I said at the beginning of the season that Kai Havertz would struggle for Arsenal. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but he is still struggling. I think it was always going to be difficult for Havertz to adapt to the way that Arsenal play and the way that Mikel Arteta wants to use him.

“I don’t think he was the type of player that Arsenal needed to sign in the summer. When you look at the squad, in my opinion, there were different types of players that they should have prioritised. It looks like it was a mistake to sign him.”
