Former Arsenal defender, Martin Keown has implied that Conor Gallagher has thrived very well at Chelsea this season because he’s now being played in his preferred number 10 position.
Gallagher is one of the most-outstanding players in Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues team this term, having started every league game under the Argentine.
It’s a remarkable improvement for the England international, who now has three assists from his last four league games, and Keown believes it’s all down to the tactical adjustment from Pochettino.
“Conor Gallagher is playing in his rightful position at No 10 – precisely where he flourished on loan at Crystal Palace – particularly as Pochettino likes to play a very high pressing game,” he told the Daily Mail.
“Gallagher relentlessly runs from midfield to join the front three of Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling in closing down opposition defenders. He does that so well that nobody in the Premier League has regained possession in the final third more than him this season.”
It remains unclear what the future holds for Gallagher, considering the likes of Romeo Lavia are close to returning for Chelsea, but the 23-year-old has definitely been playing well, and for now, it doesn’t look like his position is under much of a threat.
