Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he’s sorry for his outburst after the thrilling 4-4 draw between Chelsea and Manchester City on Sunday.

The Blues three times, came from behind to hold the reigning Premier League champions at home despite not being at full strength yet.

The game was one for the ages, as many spectators will agree, although it also saw some refereeing decisions that were deemed controversial by some. City’s first goal, which came from a penalty in the first half, was one of a number of those decisions.

Marc Cucurella was adjudged to have pulled down Erling Haaland as the Norwegian tried to get at the end of a cross, despite replays showing that the duo had their hands on each other, and if anything, it was the striker that started the pulling.

Chelsea did equalise through Thiago Silva, before Raheem Sterling put them ahead, however, Manuel Akanji fought back for the hosts, and brought them level as the teams went into the break.

The second half saw goals from Haaland and Rodri cancelled out by Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer, respectively, but Chelsea were charging down the City goal area, and might have scored a fifth if centre referee, Anthony Taylor hadn’t abruptly ended proceedings (2 minutes after the initially added 8 minutes).

That decision, together with the overall officiating of the game summed up to annoy Pochettino, who immediately stormed into the pitch at fulltime in a bid to confront the officials before he was calmed down by his coaching staff.

The Argentine has now apologised for the behaviour, and for forgetting to shake hands with Pep Guardiola at fulltime after his emotions got the best of him.

He said: “I need to apologise to Anthony [Taylor] and the officials because in this moment I feel Raheem [Sterling] can go through and in this moment I say ‘What the…?’

“I deserve to be booked, I apologise but this type of behaviour is no good. I want to apologise to him also [Pep], I was focused on the action.”

On the Haaland penalty decision, Poch added: “It’s the opinion of people sitting in a room with cameras.

“For me, what can I tell you? Sometimes it’s for you, sometimes it’s against you.”
