Anthony Taylor has been appointed the centre referee for this Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Manchester City.
The match official is well-known for being at the centre of controversies in games involving Chelsea.
A quick example is the 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge last August, where he failed to spot Cristian Romero dragging Marc Cucurella by his hair during a corner kick. Harry Kane scored to equalise for Spurs just seconds later, and deny the Blues maximum points.
Taylor was also involved in another controversy recently, after wrongfully awarding a penalty to Newcastle during their 2-2 draw against Wolves. He was demoted to the Championship for a week, where he also made more bad headlines, only for him to now be handed a game as huge as this one.
A lot of Chelsea fans are unhappy with the decision from the PGMOL, but it appears little can be done to change that as things stand.
