Chelsea have no intention of playing Christopher Nkunku against Manchester City this weekend, despite the player making reasonable progress in his injury recovery journey.
Nkunku sustained an injury while playing for Chelsea in pre-season, and has not kicked a ball in a competitive game ever since.
The Frenchman is however, believed to have made some progress over the last few months after he was recently seen training at Cobham.
Nkunku is expected to return to first-team football this November, but that may be after the upcoming international break, according to journalist, Fabrizio Romano of the ‘Here We Go’ podcast.
“Understand Chelsea decision is to take no risks with Christopher Nkunku’s comeback,” Romano wrote on his official ‘X’ handle. “It’s not expected to happen this weekend vs Manchester City.
“#CFC still planning with Nkunku back after the next international break.”
Chelsea will take on Manchester City on Sunday, but from the looks of it, Nicolas Jackson may be the man charged with leading the line for Mauricio Pochettino’s side again.
