Gary Neville has said that Destiny Udogie should have been shown a red card for his reckless tackle on Raheem Sterling in the first half.

The Italian footballer was shown a yellow card for the tackle, after VAR reviewed the incident and decided it wasn’t deserving of a sending off, although Neville disagrees.

The pundit said on Sky Sports: “He’s a lucky boy because that is a challenge that is universally hated.

“That’s the one the footballers, the professionals hate.

“You don’t do that. That tackle went about 15, 20 years ago. You just don’t do that any more.

“He would have snapped Sterling’s leg had the Chelsea player not pulled it away.

“Udogie should be off, for me that is a fact, 100 per cent.”

Udogie survived that tackle, but didn’t get so lucky in the second half after lunging in with another challenge on Sterling. Centre referee, Michael Oliver immediately pulled out a second yellow for the offence, which saw Tottenham reduced to nine men after Cristian Romero’s first half red.
