Mauricio Pochettino has expressed confidence that Nicolas Jackson will keep improving after watching the striker bag a hat-trick against Tottenham.

Poch masterminded an important 4-1 win against his former side, which now puts Chelsea in the top-half of the Premier League table ahead of their clash with Manchester City this weekend.

Jackson scored his first goal of Monday’s meeting with Tottenham after 75 minutes, getting on the end of a delicious cross from Raheem Sterling to send Chelsea 2-1 ahead of their London rivals.

The Senegal international then scored two more from similar positions to round off a brilliant performance that could have seen him netting even up to five goals.

It’s a fine performance for Jackson, who arrived from Villarreal over the summer, and has often been criticised by some football fans and pundits for his poor movement around the box.

“I think it is about building his confidence. We know when a striker is young and arrives at a club like Chelsea it is massive,” Pochettino said in post-match interview.

“He is so young and came from Spain, different league and he needs to improve. I hope this hat-trick can allow him top play more relaxed and find the confidence he needs.

“I am happy for him because we know that when strikers don’t score, they suffer. So that is for people to think. He is really young, arrived to the club this summer, and it’s not easy to play for Chelsea. It’s the history, about winning, lifting trophies.

“That’s why as a coaching staff we need to provide the tools and be calm with the way we assess things. The confidence is there and I am so happy for him because he deserves the boost.”
