Cole Palmer’s exploits in Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford a week ago were reminiscent of what Dennis Bergkamp did for Arsenal in his playing days, according to pundit, Paul Merson.
Merson appears to be a huge fan of Palmer, who has impressed for the Blues since his arrival from Manchester City. The 21-year-old was signed for just £42.5m over the summer, and has looked a pure bargain for the Chelsea since then.
The attacking midfielder has played in every game for Chelsea this season, and Merson couldn’t resist showering him with praise ahead of trip to Tottenham Hotspur next Monday.
“When [Chelsea] face teams who don’t give them any space, they’ve only got Cole Palmer who can break anybody down,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“He was outstanding the other day [against Brentford]. He was like the Dennis Bergkamp of Arsenal for Chelsea, the amount of opportunities he made.”
