Chelsea should have done everything in their power to sign Brentford striker, Ivan Toney last summer, according to Peterborough United owner, Darragh MacAnthony.
The Blues splashed the cash to bring in the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia from Brighton and Southampton respectively, during the last transfer window.
However, despite their huge investments in players over the last year, Chelsea continue to struggle to win games, and currently lie on 11th on the log.
Recent reports have confirmed Chelsea’s interest in signing a world-class striker in January, with Toney rumoured to be a top target for the Blues.
The 27-year-old is said to be valued at around £100m, despite having not kicked a ball for the Bees this season as he serves a lengthy match ban imposed on him by the FA before the start of the campaign. But he’s expected back in January, and ahead of his return, MacAnthony has told Chelsea they should have made a move for him earlier.
“Chelsea should have bought him (Toney) in August,” Macanthony told talkSPORT.
“They would have a ready-made striker ready to go in January who’s already in the dressing room and well in with the manager.
“They could have done it. They had the money.”
