Chelsea won’t be winning the league any time soon— not even if they sign the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham. This is the view of former Chelsea player, and football commentator, Andy Townsend, who was on talkSPORT, alongside Ally McCoist recently.
The pair were debating comments made by former Crystal Palace owner, Simon Jordan, who predicted that Chelsea will win the Premier League title in the next two to three years under Todd Boehly.
“That is some statement, I don’t see that at all,” Townsend said.
“Not unless they sign Mbappe and three of that level. Look, they are acquiring some very good young players.
“There is never any guarantees on young players stepping up and being able to make the difference, never!”
The commentator then asked McCoist whether Chelsea stood a chance of winning the league title with Mbappe and Bellingham, to which he replied: “Probably not.”
Townsend added: “Of course they wouldn’t, no chance!”
McCoist then said: “I think Chelsea are in the same position as Manchester United.
“In the respect that they’re miles off winning the title.”
It’s difficult to say when Chelsea will return to the top of the league again, to be honest, but then, saying this current team can’t win the title with world-class stars like Mbappe and Bellingham on their side is just plain bogus talks.
