Mauricio Pochettino has explained his decision not to play Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk during Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Brentford in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Fans were not expecting the pair to miss out on the game after they both trained during the week, but according to Pochettino, they suffered muscle injuries, and had to be rested.
The Chelsea coach, however insists they were just minor, and the duo should be back soon.
Pochettino had said: “Both Enzo and Misha felt something in training yesterday, small muscle injuries for them both.
“We hoped they would be okay to be in the squad but unfortunately they aren’t quite ready. Neither of them are big issues but we didn’t want to take any risks.
“With Enzo especially, he and his partner have just had a baby so maybe that was a reason why he was a little uncomfortable yesterday! He will now rest and recover and hopefully be back with the team as soon as possible.
“Also with Misha, he was feeling a little uncomfortable but it’s not a big problem. We will miss both of them today but that is why we have a big squad, to cope with issues like this.”
