Chelsea’s decision to offload Romelu Lukaku over the summer has been questioned by former Blue, Joe Cole.
For all their beautiful displays, Chelsea have struggled to score goals this season, finding the back of the net just 13 times in 10 games.
Their lack of a very potent goalscorer was evident on Saturday, as Chelsea fell to a 2-0 defeat to Brentford at Stamford Bridge.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were very dominant in the clash, and ought to have buried the game in the first half, but they missed some very open chances, and ended up losing it to Brentford.
According to Joe Cole, the decision to loan out Lukaku is a questionable one because of Chelsea’s woes in front of goal, especially since the Belgian has already scored eight times in ten games for AS Roma this season.
“You here all the buzz words around the club but at the end of the day, we can’t score goals,” Cole told TNT Sport.
“With Romelu Lukaku, for all of his faults, he was in the door. He was a success at Inter Milan, he scored goals at Everton and West Brom in this country, why couldn’t he score goals at Chelsea? What was wrong [with him?]
“He is scoring goals now for Roma. So we have to look within ourselves, what is wrong with this club at the moment?
“I don’t blame the manager one bit. Him and his staff are doing everything they can and I don’t even blame the players. They are all top players.
“The squad is unbalanced, but there is something wrong fundamentally with the club at the moment.”
