Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he was angered by the water bottle incident involving him and Cole Palmer last week.

Palmer, on Tuesday, admitted he had to apologise to the gaffer profusely after accidentally throwing a bottle of water at him during the 2-2 draw against Arsenal last Saturday.

According to the 21-year-old, he lost his cool as the Gunners scored their equalising goal at Stamford Bridge, and without looking, flung the bottle of water he had with him in the direction of the gaffer.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday, Pochettino joked he was actually angered by the incident, although he wasn’t injured in any way.

“I was so angry (laughs) because I didn’t expect or see when it came,” the boss said.

“When I turned and he was like, ‘Sorry!’ – it was a little unlucky. Good thing that it didn’t damage me!”

Meanwhile, while explaining what happened, Palmer said: “When they (Arsenal) scored their second goal I was getting a drink.

“I went to throw the bottle away, as you do, but didn’t look. I just saw it loop dead slow and hit the gaffer.

“I said sorry to him and apologised properly after the game. Hopefully he won’t drop me for that! We get on well. I try to show him every day in training what I can do. Work hard and just try to repay him because he puts a lot of faith in us.”
