Mykhailo Mudryk scored a brilliant goal against Arsenal in Saturday— as Chelsea drew 2-2 with them.
The Ukraine international hit the ball into the net from a distance after David Raya strayed off his goalpost.
Opinions have been split over whether or not Mudryk meant to score the goal, especially since it didn’t seem like he looked in the direction of Raya before hitting the ball.
The player, while speaking after the match, said it wasn’t a fluke as he’d been told by Chelsea goalkeeping coach to watch out for when Raya would leave his post area.
“It was something in the middle, between a cross and a shot,” said Mudryk after the game.
“Before the game, our goalkeeper coach told me to look at their keeper because sometimes he is trying to read things and he can just lose the goal, so I can chip him.”
West Ham’s Michail Antonio however doesn’t seem to believe Mudryk, although he admits he too would have claimed the goal.
Asked about the goal on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, he said: “100% a cross. One million per cent a cross. We all know. I did it against Villa, where I mishit a cross and it went in the side netting.
“I wish it went top bins myself! But I think we all know it was definitely a cross but you know what I’m taking that all day!”
