Football Supporters Trust slam Premier League for Chelsea decision. It’s the first time this will happen in 28 years

The Football Supporters Trust have voiced their displeasure with the Premier League for fixing Chelsea’s league match against Wolves for December 24 — a day that happens to be Christmas Eve.

It’s the first time in 28 years that something like this would happen in England, and the decision has not been accepted well by fans of Chelsea and Wolves.

The fixture is one of other matches slated for the holiday period, but many see it as unfair for both the fans and staff of the affected football teams.

“The Premier League has delivered an early present which no one actually wanted in the shape of a Christmas Eve fixture,” the Trust said in a statement.

“The FSA and our supporters groups have consistently told the league this is a bad idea and they have totally ignored match-goers.

“They’ve put money first, fans last, and we’ll be looking at ways to make that crystal clear to the Premier League and TV companies.

“It’s shocking scheduling and we’re in discussion with our members at Chelsea, Wolves and other supporters groups, on the next steps.”

The Chelsea Supporters Trust also said in a statement: “It is totally unacceptable that Wolves v Chelsea has been scheduled for Christmas Eve.

“Since rumours began to circulate on this issue, the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust has been clear that selecting this kick-off time will place another hurdle in the way of many matchgoing supporters.

“Not only could this lead to staffing issues at Molineux, but holiday transport timetables will further inconvenience supporters.

“The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust will formally request that the Premier League properly consults supporters on this issue and that they reverse this decision.”

The Wolves vs Chelsea game will mark the first time a league game would hold on Christmas Eve, since Manchester United played Leeds back in 1995.
