Cole Palmer told he may lose penalty duty when this Chelsea star is fit again

Football journalist, Liam Twomey has suggested that Cole Palmer will have some rivalry as it concerns penalty duty at Chelsea when Christopher Nkunku recovers from injury.

Palmer appears to be the new number one penalty taker for Mauricio Pochettino’s side,  after successfully dispatching the last two.

The 21-year-old netted from the spot to hand Chelsea the lead in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal last Saturday. Prior to that occasion, he also scored a penalty against Burnley in what was the Blues’ last game before the just-concluded international break.

Palmer had to fend off Raheem Sterling— thanks to Enzo Fernandez’s intervention, before he could successfully assume penalty duty against the Gunners— and while it does seem that he is the main man in that regard for now, Twomey is of the opinion that things could change quickly when Nkunku starts playing again.

He told The Athletic: “The only player who will enter this conversation once he returns from injury is Christopher Nkunku but, as mentioned above, that remains some way off.”

Nkunku joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig over the summer, but the France international is yet to play a competitive match for the Blues after picking up a nasty injury during pre-season.
