On-loan Chelsea striker, David Datro Fofana has apologised to his manager at Union Berlin, following his show of disrespect to the coach during Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League defeat to Napoli.
Fofana has struggled to find form at the German club, where he moved from Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old has played in all 11 of Berlin’s matches this season, failing to hit the target in any of them. He was withdrawn in the 70th minute of his side’s clash against Napoli on Tuesday, as the coach, Urs Fischer tried to find a way for his team to get back into the encounter.
The decision clearly didn’t go down well with Fofana, who stormed to the bench area as he came off the pitch, snubbing an offer of a handshake by Fischer in the process.
As he sat down, the emotional Ivorian could be seen shedding some tears, while a few of his teammates went to go console him.
Fofana’s behaviour was expectedly slammed by some, but the forward has now come out with an apology to both his manager, teammates, and fans of Union Berlin.
“Following my behaviour during my exit from the field, I wanted to apologise to the club, the coach, my team-mates and the supporters,” the Chelsea player said on social media.
“This gesture was not intended and in no way does it represent my attitude, all this was generated as a result of frustration because I wanted to continue helping the team to obtain a positive result.
“We will continue to work and come back even stronger in the championship and in this great competition.”
