Ex-Manchester City star, Micah Richards has named Reece James as Chelsea’s best player.
James, who had missed two months of football action due to a nasty injury, returned during the 2-2 draw against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. The right-back didn’t start the game, and was only introduced in the 80th minute as a replacement for Cole Palmer.
James was named the Blues’ captain just before the start of the season, and according to Richards, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have missed having the England international in their squad.
Richards also pointed out that Chelsea have been playing well this season, despite their injury woes, as he added that the only thing missing now is a proper finisher.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Richards said: “I think Chelsea have been back from the start of the season, I really believe that in terms of what he [Mauricio Pochettino] wants to do. The team ethos and the way he wants them to play. Don’t forget they have lost key players like Reece James, he’s their best player. He has been injured. [Romeo] Lavia, [Moises] Caicedo, they have had players out.
“They are getting players back now. [Malo] Gusto again was really good until the end of the game. They went with two number 10s with [Conor] Gallagher and [Cole] Palmer and he’s just getting used to his squad. With Chelsea, we are saying: ‘who is going to finish off the chances?’”
