Chris Sutton has claimed that Cole Palmer was sold by Manchester City because he doesn’t tick all the boxes for them.

Palmer joined Chelsea from the Etihad Stadium in the summer, and has started life at the London club well, scoring in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder has received lots of praise from many since the start of the season, but former Chelsea player, Sutton believes he wasn’t good enough for Pep Guardiola, and that’s why he was sold.

“He must be deficient at something in Pep’s mind, whether its fitting into the Pep Guardiola style of play, whatever it is,” Sutton said on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast.

“He’s got to be good enough and while he is a talented player, how can we sit here in this moment in time and sort of questioning Pep Guardiola? Champions League winner last season, they’ve won the Premier League for the last three seasons, whatever it is and he doesn’t get a lot of wrong.

“So maybe, should we wait a bit longer before we cast judgement?”
