Robert Sanchez’s acrobatic stop against Aston Villa has won the Premier League Save of the Month for September.
The announcement was made by Chelsea’s official account on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
The Spaniard was one of six goalies that were shortlisted for the award, after helping Chelsea avoid a more embarrassing defeat to Villa back in September. Sanchez made some impressive stops in the encounter, but only one of them is being considered for the award.
The save came against Nicolo Zaniolo, who couldn’t believe he was denied, after Sanchez showed great speed to stop the Italian’s shot from eight yards out, by tipping it over the bar.
The Blues went on to lose the game 1-0, but Sanchez’s stops prevented a heavier loss.
