Marc Cucurella has admitted it hasn’t been entirely easy playing as a right-back for Chelsea in recent matches.
The Spaniard has made three straight starts for the Blues— and all as a right-back, following the injury to Reece James, and Malo Gusto’s suspension.
For a player who has mostly operated as a left-back, Cucurella has largely impressed in his new position, but he insists the transition hasn’t been as easy as it seems.
“It’s a little bit difficult,” the Spaniard explained to the official Chelsea website.
“Really it depends on the actions.
“The big demands are the same, it’s just I’m the opposite side. I try to do my best, help the team, and I think my teammates help me as well. So we need to continue in this way and win games.”
With James expected back in the fold against Arsenal, it is not certain that Cucurella will still be playing as a right-back after the international break, or whether the boss will deploy him in a completely different position.
Cucurella has indeed been a beast at right-back. Kudos to him!
