Chelsea thumped Burnley 4-1 in their own backyard on Saturday afternoon to move to the top half of the Premier League table.
The Blues started the game a little poorly, and were punished by the hosts, who took the lead through Odobert in the first half.
Raheem Sterling was on fire throughout the encounter, however, and Chelsea have him to thank for helping the team restore parity with a left-footted shot, which was deflected into the Burnley goal by Al-Dakhil.
Both teams went into the break level, but the second half was a different affair all together, as Chelsea troubled the home defence for long periods, especially Sterling, who drew a foul in the opposition box, and earned Chelsea a 2-1 lead after the ensuing penalty was duly converted by Cole Palmer.
The England International would then go on to score his own goal in the 65th minute, thanks to a fantastic pass from Conor Gallagher. Sterling also started the move that saw Nicolas Jackson scoring Chelsea’s fourth goal of the match, after beating a Burnley defender with his blistering pace down the left before playing a cross to Palmer, who then laid a pass for the striker to finish.
Chelsea’s huge win against Vincent Kompany’s side is their first by such a margin in well over a year, and the last time they won by four goals or more was back in April 2022, when they put six unreplied goals past Southampton in the Premier League.
Mason Mount (2), Timo Werner (2), Marco Alonso (1), and Kai Havertz (1) were all on target in the win. None of those players currently still plays at Chelsea, but it sure feels good to see the team win a game by an impressive margin again.
