Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis has insisted that Victor Osimhen’s contract situation is not up for discussion, despite reports linking the Nigerian striker with a transfer away from the club.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are among the clubs believed to be keen on signing the 24-year-old, who was particularly in the spotlight last week, following the controversial video of him missing a penalty which was posted by Napoli’s official TikTok account. The video also contained a tweaked voice of a person saying, “Gimme penalty please.”
The player’s agent initially threatened legal action over the issue, but both Osimhen and Napoli appear to have mended fences, after releasing individual statements regarding the matter. The former Lille striker was also involved as the Italian club were beaten 3-2 at home in the Champions League by Real Madrid on Tuesday, and now, De Laurentiis has moved to allay fears he won’t be renewing his current contract.
“Victor is a player who makes a team on his own, it’s not up for discussion,” De Laurentiis said to El Chiringuito. “There is no problem with the renewal, everyone in Napoli is happy.”
Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in 2020.
