Chelsea are among the top European clubs monitoring the situation of Napoli star striker Victor Osimhen.
A scandal broke out earlier this week, as a couple of misjudged social media posts irked the Nigerian international.
The Nigerian’s agent threatened to sue the Serie A club over several posts on their official TikTok profile that mocked the striker.
Osimhen has kept mute on the situation, and even scored in Napoli’s 4-1 win over Udinese last time out.
If the player and the club fail to reconcile, Osimhen could push for a transfer, with his contract at Napoli expiring in less than two years.
According to talkSPORT, Chelsea will be prepared to step up their interest with a bid.
Chelsea have been linked with Osimhen in the past, but no concrete offer has been made.
The posts have since been deleted, but it took Napoli five days after the incident to release a statement on the issue.
Napoli have broken their silence in a statement where they describe the 24-year-old as a ‘treasure of the club’ but failed to give a direct apology to the 24-year-old striker.
“Calcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, point out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club,” the club said.
“As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the Club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad.
“Social media, in particular TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision.
“In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended.”
What arrogance!
Chelsea should sign Toney Ivan. He knows how tough the premiership games are. Going 4 Osimhen may also work but Toney is a better option. Thanks
