Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Manchester United target Marc Cucurella missed Chelsea’s draw with Bournemouth due to illness.

Manchester United signed Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur to ease Erik ten Hag’s left back troubles.

Reguilon arrived and featured against Brighton & Hove Albion, but it could have been a different Spanish, London-based left-back coming in.

Erik ten Hag’s side made a move for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella but ended up ditching him in order to sign Reguilon.

The Blues seemed keen to let Cucurella go just over a year since agreeing a deal worth up to £63million to sign him from Brighton.

Cucurella struggled to be at his best form last season but United were seemingly interested in him nevertheless.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, United were close to a deal but things became complicated when Cucurella played for Chelsea in the Carabao

United withdrew interest and recent reports have suggested that Cucurella could be sidelined having failed to complete his move to the Old Trafford.

Chelsea faced Bournemouth on Sunday and Cucurella wasn’t included in the Blues squad.

This happened days after the London Evening Standard reported that Cucurella was facing being sidelined from the Chelsea side with Mauricio Pochettino having no plans for him.

Cucurella’s absence on Sunday left conversations going and Pochettino’s explanation may not calm the rumors.

Chelsea boss said that Cucurella missed out due to an illness having come down with a fever.

Considering the fact that it may be true, Cucurella might likely face a difficult path between now and January.
