RC Lens forward Elye Wahi has spoken about his failed moves to Chelsea and Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this summer.
Wahi, who scored 19 goals and provided five assists in 33 games for Montpellier last season, instead joined RC Lens for a reported €30million.
“I surprised myself. My first objective was to stay in France, so I think I made the right choice. At the very beginning, there were no French clubs, only Monaco. As time went by, Lens approached us and we managed to reach an agreement,” Wahi told L’Equipe.
“I did not want to sign for Chelsea just for the sake of it. Frankfurt was close — and more than Chelsea. They had to wait for Randal Kolo Muani’s departure and waiting for it was too complicated,” the Lens striker concluded.
