Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard played a key role in Romeo Lavia’s transfer to Chelsea from Southampton, according to the Athletic via Metro.
Chelsea beat off fierce competition from Liverpool to sign the 19 year old Belgium international midfielder thanks to the help of Hazard.
A phone call from Hazard reportedly convinced Lavia to snub Liverpool and move to Chelsea this summer. Hazard reportedly explained to Lavia why he should choose Chelsea as well as the benefits of living in London.
Lavia was not in the squad for Sunday’s surprise defeat at West Ham but will likely be in contention to make his Chelsea debut against Luton on Friday night.
