Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea lacks a top goalkeeper, centre back and striker despite spending £928million on new players in the last one year.
“Not that many people are thinking that their squad with that much money spent on it are going to finish in the top four and that doesn’t seem right to me as that is an unbelievable amount of money,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I do feel even though I’ve been really impressed with them in the first two games, but if you said to me how many players do they need to challenge Man City – and I’m not talking about winning the league – I still think they need a goalkeeper, even though they just signed Sanchez.
“I still think they need a top centre-half because Thiago Silva is 38. I don’t think there is a real out-and-out centre forward.
“Your goalscorer doesn’t have to be a centre-forward either, Liverpool’s is Mohamed Salah who plays on the right wing. Jackson, he’s only just come to the club and I’ve been impressed with him, but you think of those really important decisions, it still feels like there could be four players who could go into that team just to challenge man city and that doesn’t feel right when they’ve considered the amount of money that they’ve spent.”
