According to the Guardian, Liverpool have agreed a deal worth £60m for the Southampton midfielder Roméo Lavia, who is also wanted at Chelsea.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate to strengthen his midfield and was unhappy to see Chelsea beat Liverpool to the transfer of Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

Chelsea are also trying to sign Lavia and lodged a £55m bid for the Belgian last Friday. 

Liverpool raised their bid for Lavia on Sunday night, having previously refused to go over £45m.

Despite Liverpool reaching an agreement with Southampton for Lavia, they must convince the 19-year-old to move to Anfield as Lavia reportedly favours a move to Chelsea.
