According to Daily Echo via GOAL, Chelsea have lodged a massive bid for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia as the Blues rival Liverpool’s interest in the midfielder.
Chelsea have reportedly made an offer worth £48 million ($61m) including add-ons. Liverpool’s most recent offer of £45m ($57m) was rejected by Southampton on Monday.
Southampton’s asking price for the 19-year-old is £50m ($63m). Liverpool have been reluctant to match Southampton’s asking price because they do not believe he is worth that much given his inexperience.
Chelsea have now entered the race for Lavia despite the club’s interest in Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is also a defensive midfielder.
