Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta will finalise his transfer to Spanish club Atletico Madrid this week, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Azpilicueta will complete a transfer to Atletico over the coming days having agreed personal terms with the La Liga giants.
The deal is over two years, rather than 12-month terms with the option of an extension, and it provides Azpilicueta with the opportunity to return to his homeland.
Chelsea won’t receive any fee for the transfer as the Blues have agreed to allow the 33 year old leave as a free agent despite having one year left on his contract as a matter of respect for his service to the club.
Azpilicueta’s family were also keen in returning to Spain, a major factor in the player rejecting the advances of Inter Milan who felt in pole position to sign him.
Azpilicueta joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2012 and made 508 appearances for the Blues in all competitions.
