Chelsea have offered Levi Colwill a new contract at the club amid interest from Manchester City and Liverpool following an impressive season on loan at Brighton.
According to Evening Standard via Daily Mail, the 20 year old centre-back wants to speak with Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino about his role in the team before accepting the new contract.
Pochettino is a known admirer of Colwill, but the 20-year-old does not want to serve as a back-up player after a successful season with Brighton.
Chelsea rejected a £40million offer from Brighton for Colwill. The Blues consider the 20 year old centre-back as one for the future.
Balancing Chelsea’s defensive options is going to be challenging, with several players in demand of regular playing time.
Benoit Badiashile is a similar profile to Colwill, and they would be challenging each other for the same spot, while Thiago Silva, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah are also on the books.
