Former Premier League star Jermaine Pennant has explained why Chelsea are right to demand £65million for the transfer of Mason Mount despite the midfielder having just one year left on his contract.
Manchester United believe £55million is a fair price for Mount but Pennant believes Manchester United are only trying to get Mount for cheap.
Pennant told talkSPORT: “Chelsea are right [about Mason Mount’s valuation]. He’s in the last year of his contract, but he’s a fantastic player. I like to put things into perspective — if you’re looking at £50million for James Ward-Prowse, £50-55m for Mount is a steal.
“Chelsea are hanging out for the right value and I think Manchester United are just trying to be a little bit cheeky and get him for as cheap as chips.”
Chelsea rejected a third bid of £55million from Manchester United with the Blues demanding £65million for the transfer of Mount.
