According to the Athletic, treble winners Manchester City have submitted a bid for Chelsea midfielder and four-time Champions League winner Mateo Kovacic.

Chelsea granted Manchester City permission to speak to Kovacic last month and Manchester City have now followed that up by submitting a £25million bid for the midfielder.

The former Real Madrid midfielder, who has one year left on his Chelsea contract, is keen on joining Manchester City this summer.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to get the deal over the line having been an admirer of the player since his time at Madrid.

Kovacic joined Chelsea from Madrid initially on loan in 2019 before signing a five-year contract to make the move permanent.

He won a Champions League with Chelsea and three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid.
