Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed how Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino reacted after Chelsea opted against signing Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon.
Pochettino was a huge admirer of the 22 year old Uruguayan midfielder and personally requested the club sign the midfielder.
So how did Pochettino react after the Chelsea hierarchy pulled out of talks to sign Ugarte?
Well, according to Romano, Pochettino actually agreed with Chelsea, after the Blues informed him that they would no longer be challenging PSG for Ugarte.
Romano said: “Mauricio Pochettino was always involved in conversations with the Chelsea board over Manuel Ugarte. When Chelsea told him they were pulling him out, he was like: ‘Okay, he’s a great player, but we don’t want to enter into any crazy proposals with players’. Pochettino suggested not doing madness.”
According to Football London, Chelsea have already opened talks with Southampton over a deal to sign Romeo Lavia after missing out on Ugarte.
The Belgium international is believed to have a £50m price tag on his head after a superb debut season with Southampton.
