According to Football London, Chelsea have opened talks with Southampton for midfielder Romeo Lavia.

The 19 year old midfielder only joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer but he is set to leave this summer following their relegation to the Championship.

Manchester City have a buyback option for Lavia but, fortunately for Chelsea, that is not expected to kick in until 2024.

Southampton are demanding £50million for Lavia, who Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino sees as the ideal midfield partner for Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea watched the defensive midfielder extensively this season and are keen on signing the Belgium midfielder this summer.

Football London also adds that any Lavia deal would not rule out a move for Brighton star Moses Caicedo.

With N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic expected to leave Chelsea this summer, signing a midfielder is a priority for Chelsea boss Pochettino.
