Steve McManaman has criticised Trevoh Chalobah for letting Rodrygo ‘skip past him’ for Real Madrid’s first goal in their 2-0 win over Chelsea on Tuesday night.

McManaman said on commentary for BT Sport: “Chalobah gambles, but he gets it wrong, you cannot let Rodrygo skip past you.

“If you are not getting the ball you have to take him out, because if he gets past you, you are out. He has to take him out, gets it wrong there.”

Ferdinand agreed, as he said after the game: “Chalobah should be able to get there. He is more than capable. All he has to do is stay on this feet and guide him down the wing.

“You’ve got no chance to get back when you’ve done that. Youre out of the game. No matter how quick that guy is, you’ve eliminated yourself there. That’s a split decision he gets wrong which was very costly.”
