Chelsea are worse now under Frank Lampard than under former manager Graham Potter, according to former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino.
Cascarino told talkSPORT: “I would say they are a worse team than Graham Potter’s team at the moment from what I’ve seen in the three games.
“So they have even gone backwards from what happened at the end from Graham Potter.
“This isn’t really have a go at Frank, I understand that he has problems at the club and the club is in a right mess.
“He is a club legend because of his achievements on the football pitch as a player. But my biggest issue is… you know how [Jose] Mourinho would do something and make you think?
“I remember going to games under Mourinho and thinking ‘didn’t see that, what a clever move by him’.
“You saw a manager at his best and his ability, and many, many other coaches I’ve seen do that. I don’t come away with that with Frank.
“I don’t think, ‘you know what, he got that spot on. He made subs at the right time, good decision on the full-backs’, the two wing-backs against Brighton were a disaster.”
Cascarino added: “It is impossible to defend Frank and I say that because when I look at Frank and I watch him as a coach and how he sets up his team I come away thinking I don’t really get it.
“As soon as I saw the line-up yesterday, the forward line lacked everything. There was no real threat, no presence physically, they are all pretty much a five-a-side team if you like.
“The team you put out is a reflection on you. If you can’t put them together and show something positive and give fans something, we have seen it go the other way.
“They are going backwards and that is a concern because when I come on, I don’t want to have a go at Frank. You saw my reaction when he got the job.
“He hasn’t done anything that should have got him into the Chelsea job for the second time.”
