Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has urged 18 year old Spain international and Golden Boy winner Gavi to stay at Barcelona and snub a move to Chelsea.

Gavi was rewarded with his first senior contract after a string of impressive performances for the first-team and signed a new £7.1million-per-year four-year-deal in September that included a €1bn release clause but La Liga refused to register the contract due to Barcelona’s financial issues.

Gavi will be a free agent at the end of the season when his current Barcelona contract expires.

“I don’t think Gavi would be happy at another club,” Xavi said when asked about Gavi potentially leaving the club.

“He has everything here. He is 18 years old. He’s a key player of our team.

“For me, he’s a footballer that is outstanding.

“I don’t know what he’ll decide but I think his future is here at the club,’ stated the Barcelona manager.”
