Chelsea already have a £53m deal in place to sign RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku in the summer.
The France international scored 35 goals in all competitions last season and has added a further 17 this season despite significant time out through injury.
But Rio Ferdinand isn’t convinced the Frenchman is the answer to Chelsea’s goalscoring problems.
Ferdinand told BT Sport: “They’ve got Nkunku coming in the summer, but again he’s not an out-and-out number nine. He’s coming up as a young player coming off the wide areas, or playing as a 10 in a free role behind the striker. So the balance in the squad isn’t there.”
