Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has arranged to meet with the parents of Barcelona playmaker Gavi, according to Spanish media outlet AS via The Express.

Gavi has been identified as a target by the Blues ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window with the 18 year old midfielder set to leave Barcelona as a free agent this summer.

Gavi recently signed a new long-term contract at Barcelona with an eye-watering release clause of around £1billion, although the deal is now void after La Liga refused to ratify it due to the club’s ongoing financial issues.

It means that Gavi has been forced to revert to his prior youth contract, which will allow him to leave the Nou Camp on a free transfer at the end of the campaign should he wish to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

Chelsea had a very productive meeting with the representatives of Gavi recently and will now meet with the parents of the midfielder.

Gavi is thought to have a preference to stay at Barcelona as things stand but is not ruling out the idea of joining Chelsea.

Chelsea are willing to make him one of the club’s highest-paid players by offering a lucrative salary that would dwarf his existing wage in Spain.
