Real reason why Chelsea star Mason Mount didn’t play against Wolves

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dismissed claims that Mason Mount’s absence in Saturday’s defeat to Wolves had something to do with his contract situation.

After the game against Wolves, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard confirmed earlier reports that Mount suffered an injury setback in training but some fans refused to buy amid claims Mount’s absence was an order from the Chelsea hierarchy due to his contract situation.

Romano insists Mount is indeed injured.

“Mount is injured. This is why he didn’t play against Wolves and why he’s still an [doubt] against Real Madrid,” the Italian journalist said on his YouTube channel.

“He’s injured and nothing related to his contract for Chelsea.

“Chelsea [do not have] any problem with Mount playing, even if he’s not extending the contract at this stage.

“The negotiations will resume at the end of the season — this is the idea, so May, June…

“From what I understand, the new [long-term manager] could change the situation, but not Frank Lampard.

“Lampard is focusing on helping Chelsea right now.”,
