Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has hailed Frank Lampard’s return to Chelsea as interim manager as “good news”.

Kovacic, who played under Lampard during his first spell as Blues boss, told Sky Sports: “We know him, he was our coach. It’s good news that he is back and trying to change our season, because it’s not been good.

“We need to be honest with ourselves. In the end it is easier to sack a coach than 30 players, but it’s on us as well. We need to do better and to say thank you to Potter, who was here and did a good job. It is not easy when many changes are here, so it was a bad situation for him as well.”

Lampard’s first game back at the helm will see Chelsea travel to Wolves on Saturday.
