Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso is a shock contender for the Chelsea job, according to The Guardian via The Sun.
The Liverpool legend is new to the managerial world, having only taken up the hot seat at Bayer Leverkusen earlier this season.
According to the report, the 41 year old former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder is admired by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly following his impressive work at Bayer Leverkusen.
The Bundesliga side was struggling at the bottom of the table, but under Alonso’s guidance, they have climbed up the league to 7th.
Despite the admiration for his work at Bayer Leverkusen, the report also adds that Alonso is unlikely to be offered the Chelsea job.
Chelsea are believed to be more interested in appointing a more experienced manager. Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are the favourites for the Chelsea job.
